Hey friends,
My new book, Big Feelings, comes out in five weeks today, which is both FUN and TERRIFYING. So to celebrate the countdown, I’m going to introduce you to different aspects of the book each week.
Episode 1: The Vibes.
So what’s the vibe of Big Feelings?
It’s a mystery novel with a break-up instead of a dead body. That’s a vibe.
My publisher is calling it “Fleabag meets High Fidelity”. That’s a big vibe.
The cover says it’s an anti-romantic comedy. We’ll unpack what that means in a future episode of the countdown.
In Big Feelings, you’ll meet Sadie Thomas. She’s just been dumped by her long-term girlfriend Chase, and she’s wondering… what the fuck happened?!
She takes us on a journey through their whole love story, while also taking a scalpel to past relationships. Is there a pattern? Why can’t she make romance work?
Hard truths and family secrets are uncovered along the way. Is Sadie really the victim of seemingly unfounded heartbreak? Hmm. You’ll find out.
So, why is it like Fleabag? Because the narrator is funny, with dark edges. She’s also kiiiind of unreliable and, like Fleabag, doesn’t always tell you exactly what’s going on.
And what’s with the High Fidelity reference? Ah, my fave book of all time. Of course I was going to write an homage at some point in my career. Like Rob, Sadie is on a mission: a journey through the past to make sense of the future. Again, like Rob, she doesn’t always reveal everything at the moment you’d expect. Replace the record store with a bookshop, and it’s a vibe.
There are a lot of nineties and noughties rom-com references for all the nostalgia vibes. I even put a glossary in the back of the book for added fun.
In summary, there are BIG FEELINGS in this book. I made myself cry. And laugh, a lot. Maybe that makes me a loser?
I’m excited for you to meet Sadie and the lovable, neurotic, quirky cast of characters in Big Feelings on 1 July.
Launch events are in the works as we speak, so sit tight for dates and tickets.
Love ya,
Amy
P.S. I made a video for Instagram introducing the vibes, if video is more your medium!
Can't wait Amy!! Congrats :)
